ARTinCC chainsaw crew members Vern Kern, Denny Keyes, Heath Neely and Bryan Koehler dropped the remaining trees south of Shoup Trucking. Volunteers Norma Baum, John oroka and Dennis Conway helped drag the branches to piles for burning and stacking firewood for anyone who needs it.

Thanks to our tremendous crew for all the hard work today. We couldn’t do it without volunteers. To date, volunteers have given a total of over 330 hours which, depending on the funding source, may qualify for matching funds.

We are negotiating with several groups to take the large logs remaining at Shoup’s parking lot. If not successful, we will schedule another workday to cut those trees into firewood and have volunteers stack them and make brush piles. Then we can plan for tree removal along the trail north of Shoup to the Foxburg – Richland Twp border. Much work still remains to be done south of Sboup, placing a silt sock for erosion control and pulling stumps before contouring the ground for the trail bed. Once we have our plan for ground contouring we will be installing fencing to protect volunteers and future trails users from the hazards on the Shoup Trucking facility. We look forward to many more volunteer opportunities. So, stay tuned to these announcements and notices on Facebook and the website. Many thanks again to our dedicated volunteers!

It is not essential, but it would be helpful if we could ask all volunteers who have not done s already, to submit a volunteer form online. The reason for this request is so that we are able to keep a log of volunteer and equipment hours which will count toward matching fund requirements for grants that we hope to secure. Having emails on file also enables us to send thank you messages and news updates about our progress.
