ARTinCC Gratefully acknowledges our tremendous volunteers for their hard work in the rain.
Following a very late call for volunteers, we had a great turnout of hard working men and women. It was a damp and drizzly day and after a good deal of sputtering, failed attempts to start fires, we finally got them going. Volunteers, Vern Kern, Denny Keyes, Norma Baum, Tina Prokay, Bob Jennings, Bryan Koehler, Ken Koehler, Charlie Platt and Heath Neely burned all the vines and branches south of the boat launch ramp. Vern brought his tractor and used it to push tangled masses of roots and branches into the fires saving hours of otherwise backbreaking work. All wood suitable for firewood was cut and stacked along Railroad St. I believe that local people needing firewood have already removed those stacks. After we complete the next stretch from the boat launch ramp to Shoup’s parking lot, we will be ready to lay down our erosion control silt sock and start pulling roots. Then we can begin to contour the land for the trail.
Thank you to Steve Moores at Foxburg Pizza who donated pizza and drinks to the work crew. And a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our volunteers. Next Monday our construction committee will meet to discuss our immediate needs over the next few weeks. There will be many more opportunities for volunteers. Hopefully, we can match them up with days they are available. We hope to provide opportunities for all those who have volunteered to help us build this trail.
Our Facebook GROUP has connections to other trail groups, trail users and friends. It is a friendly place to meet, to share experiences and photos along the trails.
